Albertsons Companies is proud to be featured in Project
Remission: A Lifestyle Medicine Approach to Type 2 Diabetes, a new national digital film series from the
American College of Lifestyle Medicine (ACLM) developed in partnership
with Content With Purpose (CWP). Launching
online today, the series features short documentaries, expert interviews and patient stories and highlights how
evidence-based lifestyle medicine can treat and, in many cases, achieve remission of type 2 diabetes (T2D).
Nearly half of U.S. adults are living with diabetes or prediabetes*, contributing to more than $400
billion in annual health care costs†. Project Remission explores how lifestyle medicine provides
a whole-person, evidence-based clinical framework that addresses the root causes of chronic disease through therapeutic
lifestyle interventions.
As part of the
series, Denise Algire, Director of Health at Albertsons Cos. and leader of the company’s Food is Medicine
program, shares how the grocery environment plays a pivotal role in shaping everyday health choices.
“Albertsons Cos. is uniquely positioned at the center of people’s everyday lives. What people do several
times a week is go to the grocery store and buy food. We’re preparing food for ourselves and our families. So,
grocery is where many important decisions are made in terms of health.”
She emphasizes that sustainable approaches are essential: “When we’re thinking about chronic conditions
like type 2 diabetes, that takes long-term behavioral change and something that can be sustained.”
Algire also highlights how Albertsons Cos. is bringing together services that support healthier living at scale:
“Sincerely Health brings everything together, from our nutrition counseling to our food programs to health
education and pharmacy.”
Serving customers through 2,243 retail stores and 1,708 in-store pharmacies across 35 states and the District of
Columbia, Albertsons Cos.’ national footprint positions the company to meet people where they are. As Algire
notes, “Our stores are embedded into the communities, the neighborhoods that we serve, and we’re able to
reach many different people and impact lives at a great scale. To me, that is what is really exciting, and to see
members actually own their health journey is absolutely rewarding.”
Aligned with this mission, Albertsons Cos. offers Sincerely
Health™, a free, all-in-one wellness hub within the store apps. Sincerely Health empowers
users with personalized health and nutrition insights, smart shopping recommendations, easy-to-use tools for setting and
tracking goals and rewards that make healthier choices feel achievable and motivating. Customers can join wellness
challenges, manage prescriptions, enjoy perks and earn Healthy Points redeemable for grocery savings, all designed to
make progress on wellness feel both accessible and rewarding.
Through stories, expert interviews and real-world practice models, Project Remission demonstrates how
evidence-based lifestyle interventions can support remission, improve clinical outcomes, enhance patient and provider
experience and advance health equity.
