Albertsons Companies supplier Grimmway Farms voluntarily recalls certain retail-packaged carrots due to possible Salmonella contamination

July 27, 2021, Boise, Idaho - Albertsons Companies (NYSE: ACI) announces removal of certain O Organics Baby Rainbow Carrots and O Organics Peeled Baby-Cut Carrots, in cooperation with Grimmway Farm’s recall. The carrots have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Grimmway Farms’ recall announcement can be found here.

Salmonella is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.

The O Organics Baby Rainbow Carrots and O Organics Peeled Baby-Cut Carrots were supplied by Grimmway Farms and were available for purchase in several states under the following store banners: Albertsons, Vons, Pak N’ Save, Andronico’s Community Markets, Safeway, Carrs-Safeway, Eagle, Haggen, Lucky, Shaw’s, Star Market, Randalls, Tom Thumb, United, Amigos, Market Street, and Albertsons Market.

Customers may have purchased the carrots in stores or online for Drive Up and Go or grocery delivery. The carrots were sold in the produce section. The packaging is a 12-ounce plastic bag labeled O Organics Baby Rainbow Carrots or a one-pound plastic bag labeled O Organics Peeled Baby-Cut Carrots. The O Organics logo is visible on the label at the top of the bag.

The affected carrots may have been purchased at one of the banners listed above beginning on July 14, 2021. The specific UPC codes and use by dates of the recalled carrots can be found in the table below. Products not bearing these UPC codes or use by dates are not affected by, or involved, this recall.

The potential for contamination was identified by routine, internal company testing performed by Grimmway Farms. To date there have not been any reports of Salmonella-related illness associated with these carrots. Customers who have purchased these products are asked to discard or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Consumers with questions may contact Grimmway Farms at 1-800-301-3101, M-F, 8am – 8pm. Customers can also contact Albertsons Companies at 1-877-723-3929.
